About African Safari Lodge
African Safari Lodge is situated on a private game reserve 17km outside of Grahamstown. The lodge is perched 20 meters above the high water mark on the Settlers dam with breath-taking views up river. Animal and bird sightings along the river banks are a guaranteed occurrence from the spacious viewing porches. The Lodge borders the Thomas Baines Nature Reserve, situated in the main water catchment area of Grahamstown at the confluence of two rivers – the dominant Kariega River flowing 40km further to meet the Indian Ocean at Kenton-on-Sea.
The fully serviced Main lodge features 3 en-suite bedrooms, a guest lounge and kitchen facilities. Each room is furnished with either a king-size bed or twin beds. Amenities available to guests include fans, heaters, hairdryers and tea- and coffee-making facilities. The lodge has a spacious patio with braai (barbeque) area one overlooks the river where one can view zebra, buffalo and antelope, among many others animals and birdlife.
Catering is facilitated for breakfast, lunch, dinner & desert.
Two beautiful River Units overlooking the Kariega River has been added to the Private Game Reserve. En-suite bathroom, shower and bath, DSTV, private patio with braai facilities with stunning views over the river.

Malaria-free, the area is known as Frontier Country embracing a variety of cultures, from existing tribes and others establishing themselves as early as 1812. Perfectly balanced, African Safari Lodge is a nature lover’s paradise with dense ravine thickets, scattered thorn trees and open areas making this an idyllic outdoor experience.
The African Safari Lodge philosophy is driven by making quality and lasting friendships, bringing guests closer to nature and ensuring that they experience enduring memories. The lodge can be booked in its entirety or per person depending on the need.
There is a 4,5km gravel road leading to the lodge It could be a slight challenge for sports cars with low profile tyres. If guests cross the speedbumps at an angle and stick to the speedlimit it should alleviate most of the concerns. Road maintenance is done on a regular basis.

Safari: The Lodge is set on an active game farm, part of the Assegaai Conservancy which is an association of landowners, which promotes the conservation of our wildlife, and encourages the ethical management of wildlife.
Family friendly: The lodge is situated on an active game farm with lots of open space. Guided hikes are on offer. Watersport (canoeing & SUPing) can be arranged as well as fresh water fishing and sunset boat rides. Evening game drives are also on offer.
Romantic: Sunset boat cruises and picnics can be arranged for those on a romantic break. The view from the Spekbroom Master Suite and the verandah is also spectacular.
