Baringo Island Camp
About Baringo Island Camp
Island Camp is located on Lake Baringo, one of only two freshwater lakes in the Rift Valley, and one of Kenya’s premier areas for birdwatching. Ol Kokwe Island is home to the Njemps tribes and the unique luxury tented camp. Built on a hill, the tents are perched on rocky outcrops or under trees most with a view over the lake.
Small, exclusive and remote, this island camp offers a perfect opportunity to escape the humdrum of city life or a change of pace in-between visiting the many national parks. A chance to relax, recuperate and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of this idyllic island.
The Island is owned by the Ol Kokwe Self Help Group and the community’s income and many other social development benefits from the camp. All electrical power at the camp is supplied by a generator and the water comes from the lake which is treated by ultraviolet and charcoal filters.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the open dining room overlooking the lake or if preferred, can be served in your tent. Communication is via wireless telephone and radios, whilst cell phone signals are receivable in certain locations on the island, their use is discouraged.
Activities include boat and walking excursions, water sports, sundowners on Lesukut Island, room service, fishing, swimming, laundry service, entertainment by traditional dancers and local airstrip transfers.
All rates are full board and include the boat transfer to and from the mainland.
