A little gem of a place. Very affordable with lots of unexpected extras like a welcoming glass of Port. Very clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. On top of that the friendly hosts make it a good choice as a stop over.

My wife & I stayed at the Jasmin Cottage for 2 nights. The self contained cottage had everything including a fully stocked medicine cabinet, heater, aircon, dstv & everything else a you could possibly think of. The cottage was spotless with many personal touches clearly evident. Hosts Don & Elle went out of their way to make us feel welcome & made sure all our needs were met. One small recommendation. Kitchen could be stocked with bread, yogurts & a muesli cereal.

Smithfield's Mud House

(0.8 km from Smithfield)

Smithfield has an amazing, colourful and interesting artist by the name of Sue Rosie who built her own mud house from the soil, clay and straw on her property. It is one of the main attractions in the town and although it is still a work in...

The Smithfield Caledon River Museum

(0.4 km from Smithfield)

1 review

The Museum is only about a 10 minute walk from the start of the mountain hiking trail and a wonderful place to see how the old lived in our area. Smithfield was first founded in 1848 as a church centre on the farm Waterval, owned by CS Halse. As...

Slaughterhouse Walking Trail

(0.4 km from Smithfield)

The old abattoir walking trail starts from Pula House and follows a gentle route for the casual hiker. Walk across the river and see the (now defunct) old abattoir. Take a leisurely stroll along the river through some beautiful surroundings to the...

The Historical Smithfield Cemetery

(0.8 km from Smithfield)

The Cemetery in Smithfield is one of the oldest in the Free State and worth a visit. There are war graves, and other historical figures were buried here, like the first church Dominee of the Reformed Church, the first shopkeeper, etc. A...
