Mana Pools National Park is an area that has been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO, as the number of visitors to the park is strictly controlled. In Mana Pools, the Zambezi River meanders through a wide valley, repeatedly splaying out into islands, channels and sandbanks, with escarpments rising dramatically on either side.

Accommodation in our tented camps consist of four 3.5 m Meru-style tents with en-suite showers and toilets. Our beds are wide and comfortable because most of our guests come for extended periods of time to the bush. For example, it is not unusual for our safaris to remain up to eight or 10 nights in Mana, at one or two locations.

Camp is lit at night by paraffin lanterns. Food is cooked in camp over a campfire and fresh bread baked. Meat, fruit and vegetables are supplied fresh from reliable suppliers and stored in a refrigerator and when required, the camp will be resupplied during the safari.

Mineral water is supplied for drinking and when ice is available, it is made from safe filtered water. To round up the experience, we also believe in good food and good wines when guests finally come back to camp after having followed an elephant bull for several hours on foot or a pack of wild dogs hunting.

The Mana Pools Canoe and Walking Trail is a great way for guests to enjoy the wildlife of the park. At guests own pace, they will canoe down the mighty Zambezi River, the fourth largest river in Africa, on a three-night canoe mobile safari. This is an adventure of a lifetime, an experience unlike any other. The paddling is easy and no canoe experience is necessary.

Guests paddle down the Zambezi River with a full back-up team who will set up the camps well ahead of them for the different night spots. In total, about eight hours of light paddling in a steady current and no rapids will be experienced.

The whole trip will be along Mana Pools shore line covering a distance of about 70 km, and guests will enjoy the viewing of wildlife in the style of a canoe, which is usually combined with walking and exploring the Mana Pools wilderness areas off the beaten track.

As a way to ensure continuity in interpretation of the wildlife experience and natural surroundings on guests’ journey, we offer the services of private professional guides on safari. Working together with the local guides, camp management and staff, a private guide will make sure that all guests’ needs are met and special interests pursued as far as possible.

Our latest development at Tailormade Safaris is the introduction of tours and transfers around Zimbabwe. We have introduced a small fleet of vehicles that can carry from two to 15 guests for access around all cities in the country and the remote bush locations. All our transfer vehicles have internal air-conditioning and a trailer for luggage, leaving our guests with a bit more spacious comfort.

Important Information

Please be aware that this is a mobile camp. The rack rates per person per night is includes of accommodation, meals, local drinks, all game viewing activities (canoeing, game drives and walking) all national parks conservation and camping fees. Rate includes transfer from airstrip and/or park entry points but excludes flights and road transfers to the Park/Concession. Single guests in a party will be accommodated in single tents where possible at no extra “single supplement” cost. Recommended minimum age is six years, however when we cater for one party at a time this is flexible. Please advise us at time of booking if any member of the party is below eight years of age.

Flights

We do not arrange and cannot be held responsible for any flights other than any transfer flights specifically mentioned in your safari package. All other flights you may require and book, ie international flights and scheduled domestic flights, are your sole responsibility. We cannot be held liable for any delays or additional cost incurred as a result of such flights not running to schedule.

Visas

Please ensure that you have all the necessary visas and/or information regarding visas obtainable at the port of entry prior to departure as neither Tailormade Safaris, including its representatives, employees, agents and associates can be held liable for any errors or visas not held by the guests nor the cost of visas.

Insurance

It is a condition of booking that the sole responsibility lies with all guests, their dependants or travel companions travelling with Tailormade Safaris to have a fully comprehensive insurance cover including, but not limited to, full emergency air evacuation, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, loss/damage or theft of luggage, money, goods and curtailment or cancellation of safari. Tailormade Safaris, including its representatives, employees, agents and associates will not be held responsible or liable for any costs, losses incurred or suffered by the guest, or travelling companion with regards to, but not limited to, any of the above mentioned eventualities.

Other

Should price changes be forced on us by exchange rates, fuel prices etc. Tailormade Safaris reserve the right to notify and charge accordingly up to a maximum of 10% of the total cost of your safari. For a price increase this will come to you as a surcharge and in the case of a price decrease this will come to you as a refund. The company shall without prior notice reserve the right to occasionally change itineraries, routes and camps as dictated by changing conditions and/or for safety reasons. For guests on confirmed private guided safaris, while every effort will be made to ensure that guests have their requested guide for the duration of their safari arrangements, in the unlikely event of injury/illness or death of the guide/and or his/her family members, every effort will be made to secure another specialist of similar calibre.
Tailormade Safaris reserves the right without further notice to make use of any photograph or film footage taken on the safari by our staff members or representatives without payment or permission. We guarantee that no photographs of a compromising nature will be used.
