Sea, towering sand dunes, a vlei, stunning rare fynbos and wildflowers, antelope and mountains - De Hoop Nature Reserve has it all. Here families have an enormous choice of outdoor experiences and kids can enjoy the freedom of exploring this natural playground. A special suite of kids activities includes guided walks, bikes for kids, a swimming pool, a tennis court and croquet.

Hit the trails on foot or mountain bike for exhilarating encounters with Cape mountain zebra, eland, bontebok, baboon and ostrich. Hikers can choose from a number of day walking trails along the seashore or through fynbos-clad heaths.

Various jeep tracks provide mountain bikers with many kilometres of riding while less energetic folk have the option of doing scenic game drives. Hours can be spent lounging on the beach or snorkelling in pretty rock pools. The Potberg Mountains provide sanctuary to a colony of endangered Cape vultures and the vlei is home to wading birds, a delight for birders.

De Hoop has varied accommodation ranging from camping to self-catering cottages and luxurious fully catered lodges. After working up an appetite, make your way to the Fig Tree Restaurant for local fare or a picnic basket.
