kaKhulu Karoo is a wild camping facility located in the heart of the Karoo bushveld. From the selection of comfortable chalets and apartments, to off-the-grid brick hides and elevated timber hides and tent camping grounds, travellers may decide how deep into the wild they wish to venture.

Guests who travel to kaKhulu Karoo are those who long for a Bear Grylls experience of their own; to cook over open flames and sleep beneath the Milky Way, sharing an untouched bushland with travel companions and wild game. Literally on the doorstep of adventure, kaKhulu Karoo allows its visitors to book any of the activities available at Magic Hills Private Collection.

Magic Hills is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including the Big Five, the iconic cheetah, towering giraffes and large herds of wild game. Daily adventures into the reserve take travellers on Big Five game drives or game walks on foot with a skilled guide. Our hikes also include the Cheetah Walk, tracking down land’s fastest hunter, and the Rhino Walk, a truly magical encounter with these endangered, African beasts.

Although renowned for its wildlife and conservation efforts, Magic Hills also offers kaKhulu Karoo visitors the opportunity to jump-start their adrenaline with rock climbing and abseiling facilities. Journey back in time with an excursion to recently-discovered rock art sites, to step into the lives of the tribes that walked this rugged land many centuries ago.
