About Sonklip Overnight Accommodation

Sonklip Overnight Accommodation is ideally positioned approximately halfway between the Cape and Gauteng and will suit anyone wanting to spend some time off the beaten track in the tranquillity and vast open spaces of Gariep Dam.

Sonklip offers affordable overnight accommodation two well-equipped rooms. One room consist of a double and two single beds and the second room of a double and a single bed. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with shower only. There is a bar fridge in both rooms. The braai area has a TV and a microwave for the use of both rooms. A lock-up garage is available. Unfortunately we serve no meals.

There are many activities to be enjoyed within the area from hiking and cycling trails, fresh water fishing, sailing, gliding, yachting and fish breeding stations. An unforgettable visit to the dam wall can be arranged. A warm friendly welcome awaits you with true Free State hospitality.

The greeting on arrival was very pleasant, all COVID protocols were adhered to (face masks, temperatures, greetings protocols) so feel safe and welcome. The room had all needed facilities, was well appointed and had a very comfortable bed. A large communal area was available with Gymn equipment and TV. A lock-up garage housed my vehicle. I highly recommend Sonklip and the Van Niekerk's.

Self catering is a bit of a stretch as all we access to was the microwave kettle and fridge. But that was a small concern. There is an indoor braai...so if I was more organised......One enters through the garage but don't let this put you off. The room is perfect and the electric blankets made it cozy. There is a large and in winter freezing cold common area. Hence the need to braai. DSTV is available and box office works. All on all a great half way stop for the N1.
